A biography to rediscover Laennec, the inventor of modern diagnosis
Presses universitaires de Rennes published this March a biography devoted to René Laennec, a Breton physician and the father of the stethoscope.
A guiding figure in modern diagnosis, Laennec was the one who, in 1816, first conceived an instrument capable of amplifying the sounds of the human body—thus laying the foundations of clinical auscultation as we still practise it today.
By supporting this work, SPENGLER MEDICAL pays tribute to the man whose genius, in a sense, started it all.
Because it is impossible to speak of the history of the stethoscope without returning to Laennec—and impossible to speak of Laennec without thinking of that act of auscultation which, for more than a century, has been at the heart of our profession.
